Long Live the King is Live–And Here I/We Come!

First things first… My newest baby, Long Live the King (An Italian Mafia Romance Duet #2) is LIVE!!!!  The moment has finally arrived, and my book is on shelves everywhere on the I-net, waiting for you to download it and indulge!  This book was such a long time coming, and I’m so proud to see it completed and out there for the world to read.  It took a lot out of me, finishing this book, and that’s why I appreciate and love it so much!!

live

There isn’t anything that I can say about this book that I haven’t already said, so I’ll just post this here and hope that after months of promotion and trying to hype this up, you’ll believe me when I tell you that this book is the best thing I have ever written, and it will blow you away.  The rest is up to you.  This is an epic conclusion, and I hope you’ll take a chance on it for 99¢.

Now, on to the next part of this blog post–Here I/We Come!!

I’ve been doing this for three years now, and it has been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish in this short time with the 8 books I have on the shelf.  However, it’s time for more.  I’m ambitious, and I want to be great.  It’s really as simple as that.  I want more and more people to read my books and fall in love with these stories that I fall in love with when I think of them.  I want the world to love my characters just as much as I do.  So, here I/We come.

My wife, bestselling author Isabel Lucero, and I, have been being pretty quiet about ourselves since we started this.  We’ve sat back and watched as other books and other authors have blown up and gone on to be big deals.  We’ve watched other male authors come and go and form clicks to join forces and fans, and we’ve been in the shadows, biding our time, waiting for it to be our turn.  Well, waiting for it to be our turn has only gotten us so far, and it’s obvious that it won’t take us to where we want to go.  So, we’re about to be everywhere.  We’re about to be in you faces nonstop!  I’m totally not kidding.  Before this post, I’ve already done 3 live stream videos where I have given away books to anybody who PM’s me, and I’ve got another book group takeover first thing tomorrow morning.  We’re going to plaster our mugs all over the internet so that people can get to know us and tell other people about us.  We are a married couple who writes books!  Both of us are bestselling authors!  We have what nobody else does, and we haven’t shown ourselves to the world.  Well this is it.  Those days are OVER.  So, I plan on being everywhere all the damn time.  It’s gonna be me and my baby, forming our own little click, and taking over the world.  We are the new Joker and Harley Quinn.  The world is ours, and we want you to know who we are.  So, if after all this time, you still feel like you don’t know who I am or who she is, and you’re not sure about buying our books for whatever reason, you’re about to get to know us.

I’m the Joker, she’s my Harley Quinn, and we’re about to take over the world.  Ready or not.  Here we come!!

LLTK is Coming and So Are My Nerves

Today is Wednesday, LLtK goes live on Monday, and I’m nervous as crap!  So, here’s my issue; Kingpin (An Italian Mafia Romance Duet #1) did so well, I’m totally freaking out about meeting that expectation again.  Don’t get me wrong, I put in the work during the writing phase, and I’m certainly doing everything I can in the promotion phase right now, but it’s becoming so difficult to sell books and get people to read your work these days.  Dominic Collazo is the best character I have given the world yet, and he’s so awesome in this book, but having one good-selling book is tough, so doing it twice in a row is super hard.

I am not Colleen Hoover.  I don’t have a legion of fans who are ready to drop what their doing to one-click my book.  I’m not a part of a fraternity. Bloggers are not foaming at the mouth to rant and rave about WS Greer, so I have to dive into promo mode head-first and reach out and beg for my books to be talked about.  So, here is my pitch to all my fans out there who are ready and waiting for my next release… READ LLTK, AND THEN SCREAM FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOPS HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT!!

I need you out there telling your friends about Dominic and putting them on about this book, because I worked so damn hard to get this book revised and finished.  I worked longer and harder on this book than any other book I’ve done, and it means so much to me that it does well.  Dominic is my first badass, and he is the beginning of so many more characters, and I want him to succeed.  He’s been through a lot, and he’s earned it.  The characters that will come after Dominic will only exist because he did, so I’m rooting for him to do well, and that doesn’t happen without your help.

So, the time has come, book world!  Long Live the King is just around the corner and ready to take you on a joy ride to an epic conclusion to this duet.  Buckle up, and get ready to tell your friends all about where Kingpin and Long Live the King took you!!  Here’s to Dominic Collazo!

“Fuhgeddaboutit.”

Kingpin is LIVE, and here’s how it came to be!

13118860_1404742856218050_4020178794214932701_n

It’s here!!  My beautiful baby, Kingpin is here and ready for you to fall in love with it!!  This book is my absolute favorite, hands down, out of all the books I’ve written to date.  It was a journey getting to Kingpin, and here’s how this novel came to be.

All 5 Banner  WorthSaving_ecover

When I started writing, it all began with Frozen Secrets.  This was my first book, and I knew I wanted to write suspense because all I read is suspense.  So, I came out with a bang and wrote a murder mystery with a detective named Jarrod Granger.  He was a misogynistic asshole in the beginning who grew and became much better by the end, and his story was my favorite (which is why he will be my longest running character over the course of my writing career… That’ll make sense later, trust me)  But, after Frozen Secretsthe book world shifted when a little book called Fifty Shades of Grey came out.  After Christian Gray, EVERYBODY became an erotic author in the indie world, and it was working for them, so I jumped on the bandwagon (no disrespect to the erotic authors out there!  Love you & stuff)  The next thing I knew, I’d written 4 books in a row that were “erotic” suspense or something like that.  My sales declined, and writing started to become less fun than what it was when I started with Frozen Secrets.

So, once Worth Saving released and got no love, I knew I needed to get my shit together and start having fun again.  And that’s how Kingpin was born!! Frozen Secrets was sort of romantic suspense, so I wanted to get back to that and have a blast, and Dominic Collazo was the first thing I thought of.  I needed him to be violent yet calm and collected.  That last thing I cared about was how sexy he was. I wanted him to care about no one except his love; if you deserve to be shot, he’ll shoot you and not think twice about it.  Need your legs broken?  Fuhgeddabout it!  Broken legs it is.  The only person who would matter to him would be his girl, who ended up being Alannah Sullivan.  But I knew I didn’t want to play the game where the guy hides his life from the girl, and when she finds out she loses her shit over it. I’d already walked that road.  So, I wanted Alannah to know that Dominic was a bad ass who’d kill anyone except her, and the only way to do that would be for her to have known him a very long time.  I needed her to be in the loop since the beginning, so that’s how I ended up deciding to start with PART ONE being when the two of them first met in just the fifth grade.  I knew that if I started with them being young, by the time they got to PART TWO as adults when the shit really started to hit the big fat fan, it would all make sense.

This book has everything I’ve been wanting to put in my books, and now that it’s finished and available (for only 99 cents this week, by the way), there isn’t a chance in hell that I would ever go back to writing stuff I don’t want to write.  Kingpin is me, 100%, and even if it doesn’t sell like crazy and become a bestseller, it’s my foundation for what’s to come and I can find peace in the fact that I wrote what I wanted to write.  And it’s been a long time since I felt that way.

I’ll end this by saying that there are so many reasons why you should read Kingpin, but I just wanted to give you my personal reasons now that it’s out.  This book is what I’ve been wanting to give you for nearly 3 years now.  This is 100% WS Greer, which is why reviews are already saying that this is my best book yet, and all the more reason you should go buy Kingpin (An Italian Mafia Romance).  And you can expect more suspense/romantic suspense from me, because I’m just beginning to show you who I am.  This is only the beginning for me.

One Hater Won’t Stop The Show!!

Behind every great man is a great woman… and a pack of haters throwing shade.

13101461_1731303270447148_1986545947_n

If you haven’t figured it out by now, Kingpin is my baby, and it’s only 5 days away from being released to the world!!  I started writing this book in September, and before I ever wrote one word in Microsoft, I already knew the title of the book.  It was going to be Kingpin 100% of the way, and when I told the title to my wife, I was thrilled at the smile and giggle she let out.  I knew Kingpin was the title, and I knew the story would be exactly what I needed to revive what I perceived to be a slump of books for me.  So, Kingpin was always meant to be special to me.

But, as expected, there are haters out there and this book game is about competition, believe it or not.  Not everyone out there is as friendly as you may think or as they would have you believe with their smiling profile pictures and friendly Acknowledgements sections.  So I have a small bit of shade coming from someone who I will not name, and they’re trying to sneakily throw shade on my Kingpin release.  I won’t go into specifics because, admittedly, I’m the lesser known underdog in this situation… for now.  So, I’ll just say loud and clear, ONE HATER WON’T STOP THE SHOW.

To counteract the shade being thrown at the lead up to my release day, I’m gonna have a giveaway every stinkin’ day on my Facebook page.  So, be sure to go to my page and follow the instructions that I’m gonna lay out every single day to win ebooks on said day, and to be entered into the grand prize giveaway of A SIGNED COPY OF EVERY SINGLE BOOK I’VE EVER WRITTEN.  Oh yeah!!  All 7 books, FREE, SIGNED, and SENT TO YOU!  It’s time to go all out for the sake of my baby.  I need this book to be a success, and it won’t happen without your help.  I need you, WS Greer fans.  So, head over to my Facebook page and enter a giveaway a day!!  I’m gonna break the internet with Kingpin, because ONE HATER WON’T STOP THE SHOW!!

P.S.  I really hope the person trying to slyly throw their shade on the lead up to my release sees this blog post, because you know who you are, and you know what you’re doing.  But in the end, I know I did what was right, and I was the bigger person who went out of his way to do something I didn’t have to do.  I did what I would’ve wanted someone else in the same boat to do for me if the shoe was on the other foot.  Nonetheless, I’ll persevere, MY Kingpin will persevere, and you will know… ONE. HATER. WON’T. STOP. THE. SHOW.

Until Next Time…

Homecoming, T-Minus 12, and The Walking Dead

I’m finally back at home!!  Yep, after 6 long weeks, I’m finally back home with my beautiful wife and kids and my annoying yet lovable dogs!!  42 days was a beast to have to put up with, but I endured… even walked away with a nice little award that only 6 out of 69 people received.

160415-F-QQ371-018
Not too shabby, huh??  Well, even with the accolades, I’m glad that shit is over and I’m so glad to be home again!  I missed all of this, and all it takes is 6 weeks away to make you realize how important the little things are.  I’m a lucky man.

T-minus 12 days and Kingpin will be live and in your hands!!  Whoo-fuckin;-hooo!!  That’s right, there’s only a week and a half left before Kingpin (An Italian Mafia Romance) goes live and sets the book world on fire.  Yes, I do have high hopes and expectations for this book, so let’s just hope a blogger or two gives it a chance and even decides to say something about it even though I’m not already super famous.  Fingers crossed on that one.  Anyhoo, I have plans to do some giveaways this coming weekend and of course the weekend before it releases, so please show me some love and take a shot at reading Kingpin early.  You will not regret it.  The countdown is on!!

Kingpin_BN

Lastly, now that I’m home, my wife has me all caught up on watching The Walking Dead.  I had never given this show a chance, and now that I have, I realize I’ve been missing out (Hey bloggers, see what happens when you give something a chance??).  This show is awesome, and I feel all kinds of inspired by it.  Not by the zombies or anything like that, but by the high level of shock and suspense.  The show is fantastic and I hope to write books in the future that shock the shit out of people the way it does.  So, if you’re not up on The Walking Dead, get on it!!  I’m currently at the beginning of season 5 as I write this, and it has been worth every minute spent sitting on this couch like a total lazy ass.  It’s official, I love The Walking Dead!!

What I’m currently reading…

Yes, I’m still reading Fool Me Once, by Harlan Coben.  I know it’s been nearly two weeks!!  DON”T JUDGE ME!!  I’ve been traveling, and enjoying being home, and watching The Walking Dead, and getting geared up for Kingpin to go live.  I’m swamped over here!!  I’ll get back to it, I promise.

Until Next Week, my people…

Worth Saving Is Finished!!

11057280_1652148701695939_8746065792792245937_n  So, this happened!!  Yep, I FINALLY finished writing Worth Saving!!  This has been a  long journey.  It’s been tough, and a pain in the ass, but I did it.  The fact that I had to do more  revisions than I ever did on all my other books combined, really makes it that much sweeter that I  finished it.  It was a bitch, but here’s why…

I don’t read romance.  Never have.  If you’ve been following me in the book world, you already  know I love suspense.  If I could, suspense is all I’d write, and it’s all I’d read… well, it IS all I  read. But as far as writing is concerned, I’m not in the position to write a bunch of suspense  books.  The indie world just isn’t there at the moment.  I’ve already had a big fat rant on this blog  stating my hatred for erotica, and that hatred is still as strong as it was before, so I’m obviously  not reading or writing that.  So, I decided I wanted to write contemporary romance for the first  time ever, even  though I’ve never read a romance novel.  The result was me getting my ass  kicked for, like, three months during the writing process.

I started writing and didn’t let anyone read what I was doing, which is a first for me.  I waited until I got 19 chapters in before I sent it to someone I trust, who promptly told me the story was missing something.  I tried to do what she told me to do, but even after those revisions, I still wasn’t feeling very confident.  So, I read a romance, my very first romance ever. The book I read was absolutely phenomenal, and it taught me so much.  The next thing I knew, I was revising everyday like crazy person, and I ended up adding 8 new chapters to my story.  Eight!!  It changed my whole book and brought out the potential I knew this book had when I first thought it up.  I put this in my acknowledgements sections earlier today already, but I have to shout out my friend Tonya, and my wife Isabel for helping me turn this book into everything I thought it could be.  Oh, and the book I read was Resurrecting Phoenix, by Isabel Lucero.  Yep, it’s awesome, so make sure you purchase your copy when Resurrecting Phoenix hits shelves September 24th.

So, now that I’m finally done writing, it’s time to flip the script.  I’m officially done with story mode and moving into promo mode.  Worth Saving comes out on October 17th, so I have a month and a half to convince you and every other reader out there that this book is worth all the time and revisions I put into it.  This book has everything.  Drama, action, love, laughter, sadness, heartache, and I even managed to squeeze in a little suspense, to create the best book I’ve ever written.  I would normally say keep your eyes open, but I don’t really need to because I’m going to be in your face with teasers and new promo for this book.  There’s gonna be giveaways and interviews and takeovers, and anything else my mind can come up with between now and October 17th.  So, ready or not, here Worth Saving comes.  Get used to seeing teasers, the cover, and my ugly mug.

Allow Me To Re-introduce Myself

What’s up, world?  I come to you today after having spent the past 5 weeks reviewing everything that I’ve done as an author.  I’ve looked at my sales, I’ve reviewed where my books have ranked on bestsellers lists, and I even checked the activity on my Facebook fan page dating all the way back to my very first post as Author W.S. Greer.  We’re talking about 2 years and 5 books.  It’s a lot to look at and think about.  So, I’ve been quiet, but I’ve been thinking .  I’m so thankful and proud of what I’ve been able to do up to this point.  The 5 books that I’ve put out so far have been a dream come true because I absolutely love writing.  Seeing them all together is truly gratifying.

All 5 Banner

We’re talking about 4 books that hit the bestsellers list on Amazon in one way or another.  Every book after Frozen Secrets has hit the erotic suspense and erotic thriller bestsellers lists on Amazon, and the 3 Carter books hit up to #2 on the interracial bestsellers list.  My newest book, Defending Her, peaked at #14 on the erotic suspense list.  It’s something I’m very proud of.

But, when Defending came out and I tracked the sales and the bestsellers rank on Amazon, I really started to feel a sting of disappointment.  Hitting a bestsellers list in any capacity is something to be proud of, but I realized that I’ve been selling out.  I’ve been doing it wrong, and I’ve been struggling to find my identity as an author for 2 years straight.  I love all of my stories, and I’m proud of them all, but I’ve been holding back.  I haven’t been being myself.  I’ve been trying to be politically correct and trying to avoid drama, and I’ve been trying to do things that I’ve seen other (more popular) authors do, thinking “Well, this is how they do it.  This is how authors do it.  This is how so & so does it.”  I’ve been wrong this whole time, and I’m sorry.  I’m not apologizing to you (the fans), I’m apologizing to myself.  I’ve been holding myself back.  I reviewed every book that I’ve written, and 4 out of the 5 of them had elements written in them that I would never enjoy as a reader, but I added them because it’s the hot thing, or the normal thing, or the common thing, or the latest fad, or because I needed to keep up with the other authors (especially the male ones).  I’ve been selling out to try to be like them–like all the other authors that fill up your news feed.  I’ve been doing it wrong.  Hell, you haven’t even met me yet.  So, that shit is over.

ALLOW ME TO RE-INTRODUCE MYSELF

From now on, I’m not selling out, or watering down anything (not my books or my social media posts) to please anybody or fit in.  I am who I am.  Trying to be like everybody else DID NOT result in more sales.  In fact, my newest book (that I’m the most proud of), Defending Her, sold the LEAST since my very first book!!  How about that?!?   It’s obvious that trying to please everybody hasn’t been working.  So, again, allow me to re-introduce myself.  Let’s get a few things out in the open.

For starters… I cuss… A LOT.

If you read a post from me and it doesn’t have a cuss word in it, you can bet that there was one, but I deleted so I wouldn’t offend anyone.  Well, fuck that.  I’m a 30 year old, 2-time Iraq veteran, with a wife, 2 kids, and nearly 11 years of active duty military service in the United States Air Force… as well as a struggling, aspiring author.  I’ve earned the right to cuss like a sailor.  If you’re offended by cussing, you’re gonna have to unlike my fan page.  I promise I’m not cussing to intentionally offend anyone.  I’m cussing because that’s just who the fuck I am.  It’s not about you.  It’s about me being comfortable being me.  Feel free to cuss up a storm when you comment on my statuses.  It’ll make me like you more.  Seriously.  I don’t trust people who aren’t comfortable enough to cuss around me.  So, fuck it.  Cuss it up.

Next up… Fuck Erotica.

Yikes.  That one’s bound to lose me some fans, for sure.  Now, I’m not saying fuck people who read erotica.  I’m saying fuck erotica as a genre.  I hate that shit, and I don’t read it.  Now, please be a grownup and keep in mind that this is only MY OPINION.  If you love erotic books, that’s fantastic!  Please continue to support authors who write erotic books and keep yourself entertained however you see fit.  What I’m saying is that I hate erotic scenes in books.  I tried to read 50 Shades of Grey, and I failed… TWICE.  I just couldn’t do it.  The way it’s worded just drives me crazy and makes me want to throw my Kindle, and them shits are expensive so I can’t do that.  Now, if I’m admitting to you that I hate erotic scenes and stories in other people’s books, imagine how I feel when I edit and review my own books and see those scenes in there.  I don’t like erotica, I don’t read erotica, but I put it in my books?  That’s dumb, and I don’t know what the hell I’ve been thinking.  I’ve been constantly struggling, trying to think of ways to add erotic scenes because erotica is the hottest selling shit since… well, since 50 Shades came out and the bandwagon was born.  I have watered down 4 out of my 5 stories to try to fit erotic scenes into them, cutting them up and putting the story on pause so that the couple can have sex on the kitchen counter.  Having sex on the kitchen counter is the shit, but I personally don’t want to pause my suspenseful, thrilling, dramatic story just so I can call it erotic.  For the record, I fucking love sex!  My wife will vouch and attest to this.  I’m as freaky as they come, and I watch porn just like every other man.  I just don’t want to read it.  I know that’s weird, but fuck it.  Just had to add that in there.  Anyway, so, if you love erotica, I still love you and think you’re awesome… you’re just gonna have to get that shit from another author, and there’s plenty of them out there.  I’m a much bigger fan of romance, so the erotic elements of my stories will now be replaced by romance.  However, the main genre that I write will be the one that I love to read.  The one that made me want to be an author in the first place.  Which leads me to my next topic.

I love dramatic, emotional, SUSPENSE-driven stories… and that’s what I’m going to write.

I have officially moved on from my first 5 books.  I can honestly say that I wrote those for you.  They’ll obviously stay on sale, and I’ll continue to promote them from time to time, but I’m over them.  I’m already working on my next book.  It’s actually already on Goodreads.  Everything I write from here on out will be 100% for me.  Every aspect of my books will be something that I enjoy as both a writer and a reader.  At least then if it doesn’t sell, I can at least find solace in the fact that I did it the way I wanted to and I was happy with every part of it.  It’s all about being true to yourself.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned in both my military career and my “second job” as an author, it’s that you just have to be yourself.  If people don’t like you for who you are, then the hell with ’em.  Just do you, and fuck anybody that hates on your for it.

As you can see from the synopsis of my next book, I don’t give two shits about erotica.  I don’t want to make you hot.  There, I said it.  I want more than that.  I want to hold your heart in my hands.  I want to hold your life in my hands (metaphorically, obviously.  I’m not a murderer, people).  When you open my books, I want you all fucked up.  I want you confused.  I want you frustrated, scratching your head, squinting trying to figure out WHAT THE FUCK.  I want you so up on the edge of your seat that you fall the hell off and struggle to get back up again.  I want you to struggle with the decision whether to keep reading my book or to eat.  That’s right, I want the story to be so mesmerizing that you’re willing to starve to death just to finish reading it.  That’s how good a book should be.  When I read a book by my favorite authors (Harlan Coben, Gillian Flyn, Lisa Gardner, Linwood Barclay), I’m stunned.  I’m shocked.  I’m transfixed, and I don’t want to do anything else until I finish the book.  It’s an amazing feeling that only a phenomenal story can give you, and I don’t think I’ve given that to you yet.  I haven’t done that yet.  And for that, I’m sorry.  But, that’s about to change.  I’m doing what I want now.  I’m going to do what I love, and nothing is going to sway me from that path.

My Own Genre

I’m different… on purpose.  I don’t want to be like what you’re used to.  I want to take you to a place you’ve never been before, and I don’t want you to be comfortable.  I want to take your mind and imagination hostage and give you the most ridiculous book hangover you’ve ever experienced in your life.  That’s what I look for when I pick a story to read.  That’s what I will deliver when I pick a story to write.  So, excuse me while I stop giving a fuck about fitting in.

Allow me to re-introduce myself.

Will the real W.S. Greer please stand up…
