Inside the Mind of a Madman

I know what you’re thinking just from looking at the teaser above: when the fuck is this book coming out?  I know.  Me and the Wife announced a couple of weeks ago that we’re teaming up to write a series entitled Wilde King, and the reception of that announcement was amazing.  Both of us are beyond excited to get this series going, and this is how it’s going to shape up…

Madman (A Wilde King Novel 1a)
Seductress (A Wilde King Novel 1b) By Isabel Lucero
Mad Love (A Wilde King Novel 2)

Notice the way the 1st two books are labled 1a and 1b?  That’s for a reason.  My talented and beautiful wife is writing Seductress (Wild King 1b), and it’s the story of Reina Wilde, a woman with a rough childhood and horrible life experiences that shaped how she became an adult.  That’s the way things work sometimes.  Sometimes you’re born into a wealthy family and everything is supposed to be easy for you, as long as you abide by the family rules.  But when you don’t abide, the cracks in the foundation become bigger and bigger until the whole thing breaks and you become someone you didn’t expect, attracted to things and people you never thought–things and people that “normal” people do their best to stay away from because they know better.  Reina Wilde is broken, and she needs someone else who understands what it’s like to be broken too.  She just didn’t expect to find someone who was even more broken.  And she didn’t expect to love it so much.

I’m writing Madman (Wilde King 1a), the story of the most insane, confusing, challenging character I’ve ever created.  Solomon King is broken too, but he’s different from your usual anti-hero.  Solomon is a psychopath who’s also smart and driven, motivated and ambitious, and he’s everything a villain is supposed to be, yet Reina sees him as a hero.  He’s not.

Solomon is different from all my other characters, even the one I loved the most, Dominic Collazo from Kingpin and Long Live the King.  Dominic was brutal and he was a worthy boss of his Italian mafia family.  He had limits though, Solomon doesn’t.  No one should love someone like Solomon.  How could you love someone you’re terrified of?  So Reina has to be just as crazy as Solomon if she’s going to love him, and that insanity erases her fear.  Solomon’s brain isn’t like a normal one, so when I’m writing his inner dialogue, I find myself having to be in a certain zone, because I don’t just write characters, I become them.  I’ve written background and info on Solomon that will never make it into Madman or Mad Love, but it was important because I had to put myself into a certain frame of mind to write his book, and I couldn’t do that without understanding absolutely everything that happened to him to make him the way he is.  I had to understand WHY Solomon King is Solomon King.  It couldn’t be on the surface, it had to be deep.  I had to take the time to shape my mind into that of a depraved psycho who has no problem laughing while he’s killing you.  Someone who has no problem taking a life at the drop of a dime, yet one who could love Reina in his own way.  His love for her isn’t normal because he isn’t.

So how do psychos love?  It’s a helluva question, and answering it is a fucking task.  Before writing this blog post, I stopped writing for a week, because when I would sit down to write Madman, I’d find myself getting stuck because I felt too normal.  You can’t write Solomon King and be normal.  I know I’ll fuck it up if I do that, so I’d rather stop and come back tomorrow, and then stop again if it still doesn’t feel right.  After I publish this blog, I plan on writing the next chapter in Madman, and I expect it to be epic.  My coffee is extra strong tonight, and after a week off, I feel ready to commit to Solomon’s mindset.

It takes patience.  Writing as Solomon King feels like writing as all my heroes and all my villains combined.  He’s all of them, Kelvin Carter and Senior mixed up.  He’s Jarrod Granger, the Tongue Snatcher, and the Snowman Killer, all rolled into one.  He’s Dominic Collazo and Abram Baskov fused together.  The perfect hero and the perfect villain.  Violence and peace. The best heaven and the absolute worst of hell.  He’s the most difficult character I’ve ever had, and that’s why he’s the best of them.  He’s unlike anything you’ve read before, because he’s taking me to a place I’ve never been before.

And I won’t let him be overlooked either.  There’s been enough of that (see Red Snow).  Madman is mine, Seductress is Isabel’s, and Mad Love is both of ours.  It’s going to take some time, because I refuse to give Solomon less than what he deserves, and he deserves all the attention in the world.  And he’ll get it.  He’ll take it.  Him and Reina both.  #TheMadmanCometh

Long Live the King is Live–And Here I/We Come!

First things first… My newest baby, Long Live the King (An Italian Mafia Romance Duet #2) is LIVE!!!!  The moment has finally arrived, and my book is on shelves everywhere on the I-net, waiting for you to download it and indulge!  This book was such a long time coming, and I’m so proud to see it completed and out there for the world to read.  It took a lot out of me, finishing this book, and that’s why I appreciate and love it so much!!

There isn’t anything that I can say about this book that I haven’t already said, so I’ll just post this here and hope that after months of promotion and trying to hype this up, you’ll believe me when I tell you that this book is the best thing I have ever written, and it will blow you away.  The rest is up to you.  This is an epic conclusion, and I hope you’ll take a chance on it for 99¢.

Now, on to the next part of this blog post–Here I/We Come!!

I’ve been doing this for three years now, and it has been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish in this short time with the 8 books I have on the shelf.  However, it’s time for more.  I’m ambitious, and I want to be great.  It’s really as simple as that.  I want more and more people to read my books and fall in love with these stories that I fall in love with when I think of them.  I want the world to love my characters just as much as I do.  So, here I/We come.

My wife, bestselling author Isabel Lucero, and I, have been being pretty quiet about ourselves since we started this.  We’ve sat back and watched as other books and other authors have blown up and gone on to be big deals.  We’ve watched other male authors come and go and form clicks to join forces and fans, and we’ve been in the shadows, biding our time, waiting for it to be our turn.  Well, waiting for it to be our turn has only gotten us so far, and it’s obvious that it won’t take us to where we want to go.  So, we’re about to be everywhere.  We’re about to be in you faces nonstop!  I’m totally not kidding.  Before this post, I’ve already done 3 live stream videos where I have given away books to anybody who PM’s me, and I’ve got another book group takeover first thing tomorrow morning.  We’re going to plaster our mugs all over the internet so that people can get to know us and tell other people about us.  We are a married couple who writes books!  Both of us are bestselling authors!  We have what nobody else does, and we haven’t shown ourselves to the world.  Well this is it.  Those days are OVER.  So, I plan on being everywhere all the damn time.  It’s gonna be me and my baby, forming our own little click, and taking over the world.  We are the new Joker and Harley Quinn.  The world is ours, and we want you to know who we are.  So, if after all this time, you still feel like you don’t know who I am or who she is, and you’re not sure about buying our books for whatever reason, you’re about to get to know us.

I’m the Joker, she’s my Harley Quinn, and we’re about to take over the world.  Ready or not.  Here we come!!

My first ever video blog!! No more author bullying, and no more book reporting!

It took me forever to figure out how to get this damn video to upload. In the end, I had to go the YouTube route. I posted this on my Facebook pages already, so, sorry for the late blog post. The early support for this has been amazing so far!! Thank you all so much!! I chose some “touchy” topics that were kind of serious in the the author world right now (author sabotage, reporting books to have them taken down, bullying), and I just wanted to keep it real with you and speak from the heart, while also giving you updates about my next book, Becoming Carter. Share the crap out of this video, and comment, comment, comment. I want to know how you feel about this stuff!

Blog Exclusive Teaser!!

So, after a lot of thought, I’ve decided that I will post a teaser from Becoming Carter!!  I’ve been getting a lot of requests for teasers, especially during takeovers and things like that, so I picked one from the 30,000+ words I have written so far.  Obviously, I didn’t want to give too much away, because the truth is, we’re way too early in this process to be dropping teasers.  But, as February comes to a close, I’m feeling generous. PLUS, I really want to share some of what I have written with my awesome fans!!  So, without further ado, here is the blog exclusive first teaser for Becoming Carter.

“Don’t worry about a thing, baby.  I got you.”

I opened my eyes and found Kelvin standing in the hallway.  There were no lights on, and his naked body was surrounded by darkness as he stood there staring at me.  As I marveled at the perfectly proportioned muscles and tattoos that covered his body—not to mention his astonishing package—I was distracted when I noticed he was holding a gun.  The look on his face was one of passion, but also one of pain and worry.

I didn’t know what was going on, so I smiled at him, trying to gauge the situation and see if he’d smile back.  He did, and it was still the best smile I’d ever seen, even in total darkness.  He waved at me, telling me to follow him as he turned around and walked into the living room, but he didn’t turn on any lights.

“Kelvin, wait up,” I said, my voice echoing loudly through the penthouse.

I felt my heart starting to beat faster with every step I took.  I didn’t want to lose him.  I didn’t want to be without him in this darkness, so I started running down the hallway and turned into the black living room.

The only problem was that when I got there, there was no living room, and Kelvin was gone.  The only thing in the room was a man.  A man whose face I couldn’t see.  All I could make out were the tattoos on his hand.  The same hand that was pointing the gun at my face.

My eyes bulged, and I tried to scream for Kelvin, but no sound came out of my mouth.  Instead, it was another sound I heard—the sound of a trigger being squeezed and the gun going off…

The loud bang of the gun knocked me out of my nightmare and I woke up sweating and out of breath. ©

So?  Are you totally fucking amped for this book to come out now, because amped is exactly how I feel as I’m writing this everyday.  I can admit that I changed my style up for this book, basically going back to my roots and the suspense that made me want to be an author in the first place.  And the results have been nothing short of amazing.  The emotion that Lily and Kelvin are feeling is nothing like what they felt in Claiming Carter.  Everything is on a whole new scale and has been turned up, like, a thousand notches.  So, I don’t know for sure when this book is coming out (I’m still planning and am on schedule for sometime in April), but I can assure you that you haven’t read anything like this before.  Get ready to be turned on, hot, mad, sad, depressed, anxious, nervous, scared, and stressed the hell out, right from the moment you open the book.  This book will change everything.

Also, my other half is also writing something that is going to knock your socks off.  My wife, Isabel Lucero, is creating a masterpiece!!  If you haven’t seen it already, book 2 in her Escort Series has been titled Unforgivable Sin, and it is ridiculous what she’s come up with to top her Amazon Bestselling book 1, Living in Sin.  We’re both working extremely hard to bring our fans something that they’ve never experienced before, and from the looks of it, that’s exactly what we’re about to do.  So, get ready for the ride, because we’re coming!!

Oh, and for the hell of it… here’s another tiny teaser.  Get ready for April.
