Inside the Mind of a Madman

15781095_1845685732342234_5226471828138337406_n

I know what you’re thinking just from looking at the teaser above: when the fuck is this book coming out?  I know.  Me and the Wife announced a couple of weeks ago that we’re teaming up to write a series entitled Wilde King, and the reception of that announcement was amazing.  Both of us are beyond excited to get this series going, and this is how it’s going to shape up…

Madman (A Wilde King Novel 1a)
Seductress (A Wilde King Novel 1b) By Isabel Lucero
Mad Love (A Wilde King Novel 2)

Notice the way the 1st two books are labled 1a and 1b?  That’s for a reason.  My talented and beautiful wife is writing Seductress (Wild King 1b), and it’s the story of Reina Wilde, a woman with a rough childhood and horrible life experiences that shaped how she became an adult.  That’s the way things work sometimes.  Sometimes you’re born into a wealthy family and everything is supposed to be easy for you, as long as you abide by the family rules.  But when you don’t abide, the cracks in the foundation become bigger and bigger until the whole thing breaks and you become someone you didn’t expect, attracted to things and people you never thought–things and people that “normal” people do their best to stay away from because they know better.  Reina Wilde is broken, and she needs someone else who understands what it’s like to be broken too.  She just didn’t expect to find someone who was even more broken.  And she didn’t expect to love it so much.

I’m writing Madman (Wilde King 1a), the story of the most insane, confusing, challenging character I’ve ever created.  Solomon King is broken too, but he’s different from your usual anti-hero.  Solomon is a psychopath who’s also smart and driven, motivated and ambitious, and he’s everything a villain is supposed to be, yet Reina sees him as a hero.  He’s not.

Solomon is different from all my other characters, even the one I loved the most, Dominic Collazo from Kingpin and Long Live the King.  Dominic was brutal and he was a worthy boss of his Italian mafia family.  He had limits though, Solomon doesn’t.  No one should love someone like Solomon.  How could you love someone you’re terrified of?  So Reina has to be just as crazy as Solomon if she’s going to love him, and that insanity erases her fear.  Solomon’s brain isn’t like a normal one, so when I’m writing his inner dialogue, I find myself having to be in a certain zone, because I don’t just write characters, I become them.  I’ve written background and info on Solomon that will never make it into Madman or Mad Love, but it was important because I had to put myself into a certain frame of mind to write his book, and I couldn’t do that without understanding absolutely everything that happened to him to make him the way he is.  I had to understand WHY Solomon King is Solomon King.  It couldn’t be on the surface, it had to be deep.  I had to take the time to shape my mind into that of a depraved psycho who has no problem laughing while he’s killing you.  Someone who has no problem taking a life at the drop of a dime, yet one who could love Reina in his own way.  His love for her isn’t normal because he isn’t.

So how do psychos love?  It’s a helluva question, and answering it is a fucking task.  Before writing this blog post, I stopped writing for a week, because when I would sit down to write Madman, I’d find myself getting stuck because I felt too normal.  You can’t write Solomon King and be normal.  I know I’ll fuck it up if I do that, so I’d rather stop and come back tomorrow, and then stop again if it still doesn’t feel right.  After I publish this blog, I plan on writing the next chapter in Madman, and I expect it to be epic.  My coffee is extra strong tonight, and after a week off, I feel ready to commit to Solomon’s mindset.

It takes patience.  Writing as Solomon King feels like writing as all my heroes and all my villains combined.  He’s all of them, Kelvin Carter and Senior mixed up.  He’s Jarrod Granger, the Tongue Snatcher, and the Snowman Killer, all rolled into one.  He’s Dominic Collazo and Abram Baskov fused together.  The perfect hero and the perfect villain.  Violence and peace. The best heaven and the absolute worst of hell.  He’s the most difficult character I’ve ever had, and that’s why he’s the best of them.  He’s unlike anything you’ve read before, because he’s taking me to a place I’ve never been before.

And I won’t let him be overlooked either.  There’s been enough of that (see Red Snow).  Madman is mine, Seductress is Isabel’s, and Mad Love is both of ours.  It’s going to take some time, because I refuse to give Solomon less than what he deserves, and he deserves all the attention in the world.  And he’ll get it.  He’ll take it.  Him and Reina both.  #TheMadmanCometh

Sincerely,

WS in 2017

Well, 2016 is coming to a close and it was a big year.  Tons and tons of books came out that did really well and grabbed a lot of peoples attention, and my book, Kingpin (An Italian Mafia Romance), was one of those big books of 2016. 13180926_1736689803241828_1586459477_n

I was so proud to see it do well and finally get me some attention that I’ve been hoping for for a long time. So I just want to say Thank You to all of my fans for making that book do as well as it did.

But now we are moving onto 2017, and I am excited just like people usually are at the end of the year when they get their New Year’s resolutions together. For me and my family, it’s going to be a big year for us anyway, because we are finally moving away from the island of Guam and officially going back to the United States!  We don’t know where in the states we’re going to live, but we do know that we are going back to the states, and that means book signings and being able to communicate on social media at a time that isn’t 2 o’clock in the morning for me and my wife!  This move is going to be great for us from a business standpoint, so now that we know that it’s official and we have no other option, I am excited about it and can’t wait to see how it positively affects what we’re doing in the book world. We have three book signings already locked in for 2017: Vegas in August, Phoenix in September, Manchester in November, which we are beyond excited about!  So we can’t wait to get out there and see our fans, and give autographs, and do meet & greets and just have a great time being published authors in this amazing indie community.

The books that I have planned to publish in 2017 are stories that I am so excited to write!  All of them are what I like to call Alpha Romantic Suspense, where it’s romantic suspense but the lead male character is an alpha bad ass who doesn’t take any shit and is ride or die for his woman like no other!  I learned a lot from the three books I published in 2016, and I plan on using everything that I learned this year to make every book that I publish next year my best books yet, starting with Madman (A Wilde King Novel).

2017 will be a big year for the #AuthorPowerCouple!  Writing and game-planning has already begun. 2017 is curtains up for me, personally. Enjoy the show!

Homecoming, T-Minus 12, and The Walking Dead

I’m finally back at home!!  Yep, after 6 long weeks, I’m finally back home with my beautiful wife and kids and my annoying yet lovable dogs!!  42 days was a beast to have to put up with, but I endured… even walked away with a nice little award that only 6 out of 69 people received.

160415-F-QQ371-018
Not too shabby, huh??  Well, even with the accolades, I’m glad that shit is over and I’m so glad to be home again!  I missed all of this, and all it takes is 6 weeks away to make you realize how important the little things are.  I’m a lucky man.

T-minus 12 days and Kingpin will be live and in your hands!!  Whoo-fuckin;-hooo!!  That’s right, there’s only a week and a half left before Kingpin (An Italian Mafia Romance) goes live and sets the book world on fire.  Yes, I do have high hopes and expectations for this book, so let’s just hope a blogger or two gives it a chance and even decides to say something about it even though I’m not already super famous.  Fingers crossed on that one.  Anyhoo, I have plans to do some giveaways this coming weekend and of course the weekend before it releases, so please show me some love and take a shot at reading Kingpin early.  You will not regret it.  The countdown is on!!

Lastly, now that I’m home, my wife has me all caught up on watching The Walking Dead.  I had never given this show a chance, and now that I have, I realize I’ve been missing out (Hey bloggers, see what happens when you give something a chance??).  This show is awesome, and I feel all kinds of inspired by it.  Not by the zombies or anything like that, but by the high level of shock and suspense.  The show is fantastic and I hope to write books in the future that shock the shit out of people the way it does.  So, if you’re not up on The Walking Dead, get on it!!  I’m currently at the beginning of season 5 as I write this, and it has been worth every minute spent sitting on this couch like a total lazy ass.  It’s official, I love The Walking Dead!!

the-walking-dead-season-5-trailer

What I’m currently reading…

Yes, I’m still reading Fool Me Once, by Harlan Coben.  I know it’s been nearly two weeks!!  DON”T JUDGE ME!!  I’ve been traveling, and enjoying being home, and watching The Walking Dead, and getting geared up for Kingpin to go live.  I’m swamped over here!!  I’ll get back to it, I promise.

Until Next Week, my people…

Q&A With Bestselling Author WS Greer!!

So, I conducted a Q&A on all my social media sites, and here are the questions I was asked.  If you know anything about me, I’m always as open and honest as possible.  So, every answer is MY answer, and I don’t need anyone to condone or agree with what I say.  This is me being me.

Q: Is Worth Saving a standalone novel or part of a series of books?

A: Worth Saving is a standalone.  I never intended for this story to be a series, but you never know what might happen.  As a writer, things pop into your head all the time, and when they do and they sound good, you roll with it.  So, it’s not in the plans right now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be later on.

Q: Do you see yourself continuing with your characters from Frozen Secrets?

A: Abso-fucking-lutely!!  Out of all the books I’ve written so far, Frozen Secrets is still my favorite.  Even though in hindsight, I think I made Jarrod a little too misogynistic and shallow, once he grew out of that and got his act together, I loved him.  I have a soft spot for Stacey because she’s based on my wife!  So, there are already plans in the future to write another Detective Granger novel, possibly in 2016, there’s just other plans I have to get to first.  But, I promise those characters are not done!

Q: What can we expect after Worth Saving?

A: BIG SHIT!!  I don’t want to go into detail about what’s next for me, but I can say a little.  #1. I already have a title for my next book.  #2. I’ve already starting writing my next book.  #3. I’m already searching for a cover for my next book.  #4. This next book is me writing for all the reasons I love literature.  It’s me doing 100% of what I want to do, and nothing less.  #5. Even my wife knows this is the best book I’ve ever come up with, and I’m only (at the time of this blog post) 5K words into it.  #6. This next book will define me as an author, and set the path for every book I write after it.  #7. This book will replace Frozen Secrets as my favorite I’ve written.  And lastly, #8. I don’t give a fuck about writing what I believe will sell anymore.  I’m done with that shit, and my next book will be the first of many examples of me writing what I love.

Q: Are you going to continue writing more contemporary romance?

A:  No. Worth Saving is my first and last contemporary romance.  Not because I didn’t enjoy writing the story, but because writing contemporary romance just isn’t what I do.  Up to this point, I’ve think I’ve written every genre I’d be willing to consider, and now that contemporary romance has been checked off the list of things I’d like to write, I know my heart is somewhere else.  My heart belongs to suspense, plain and simple.  I’ve been saying that for too long without going through with what I believe in, and anybody who knows me well knows I always stand up for what I believe in, no matter how unpopular it may be.  This is no different.  I love suspense, it’s what I’m best at writing, and it’s what I’m gonna do.  So, although I loved writing Worth Saving, I won’t be writing contemporary romance again.

Q: What made you come up with Austin and Layla’s story?

A:  Well, the truth is that I was actually writing another story when I decided to try to write a contemporary romance.  I was writing a book called Unsound (which still is not my next book), I was about 14K words into it, and then Austin and Layla from Worth Saving just took over.  I was excited about the idea of writing a popular genre that I thought would sell better than the psychological thriller/suspense I was writing at the time.  So, I put Unsound down and picked up Worth Saving.  When the idea of writing a romance popped into my head, Austin and Layla’s story came right along with it.  It was a package deal, I guess.

Q: Will we ever get anymore Kelvin Carter Jr.?

A: I get this question a lot.  Claiming Carter has sold more copies than any of my other books, by far.  People loved Kelvin, and they seem to love the Carter Trilogy, which is awesome.  However, the Carters are done for sure.  Although Claiming Carter sold quite a bit, I wrote that story for all the wrong reasons.  As I’ve said in past Q&A’a and interviews, Kelvin was supposed to be my version of Christian Grey, and I wrote erotica because it was the hot genre at the time.  Well, fuck all that.  I’ll never do that again.  I had to force myself to finish writing the Carter trilogy, and I won’t put myself through that ever again.  I love Kelvin and how he developed in the end, but what’s coming next will be blow all of that away.  I’m in the zone with this new shit.

Q: Are you going to write the typical bad boy heroes, or more realistic antiheroes in the future?

A:  Uh-oh, controversy is looming.  Here’s my answer… fuck this typical bad boy stuff that’s going on right now.  I refuse to be like everybody else just because it’s convenient.  My heroes are going to be real.  They’re gonna have real issues with backgrounds and stories and feelings that people can relate to.  NEWS FLASH!!  If you look around the world, most men are not bad boys.  Nor are they alpha males.  Those characteristics are rare.  My heroes may end up being bad boys by accident, but I’m not writing it that way on purpose.  Here’s an example: you ever heard of Javier?  He’s a character written by one of my favorite authors, Karina Halle.  That’s the kind of antihero I like.  Javier is a bad ass, but not because he’s trying to be.  That’s just who he is.  So, wait until you see who I have coming up next year.  He’s a bad ass, but not because he’s trying to be.  That’s just who he is, and you’ll get to see how he becomes the bad ass that he is.  My characters and I are different… on purpose.

Q: Would you ever co-write a book with your wife?

A:  Absolutely.  We haven’t come up with a story yet, but I can totally see us doing it in the future.  We’ve got individual goals we’d like to accomplish first, but once we get to where we want to go as individuals, we’ll make it happen.

Q: Do you prefer writing series’ or standalones?

A:  I’m not sure I mind either one, if the story is right.  Up to this point, I’ve written one trilogy and three standalones.  The trilogy I wrote was difficult to complete, but I have reasons for why that is.  My next book just might be a series… I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

A:  Somewhere in America (I really hate living in Guam), and a consistent New York Times Bestseller of romantic suspense.  “I’m tired of seeing who you’re checking for now.  Just give it time, we’ll see who’s still around a decade from now.  That’s real.”  -DRAKE-

Q: What do you wish there was more of in the indie world?

A:  Tough question, but the answer might get me in trouble.  I wish there was more sincerity in the indie world.  All the male authors acting like they’re living the lives of their characters drives me crazy.  Everybody writing the same damn book over and over again drives me crazy.  Every book being an alpha millionaire/billionaire so & so drives me crazy.  Where the hell did the creativity go?  Where’s the diversity?  Why do I keep seeing the same book with different titles?  Why do covers with half-naked men on them get all the attention?  When did depth, and substance, and creativity become bad things?  The horny-ness (is that a word?) of the readers is making it to where good books are being overlooked.  If you’re indie, and you’re not writing erotica then you’re automatically being ignored, and I really hate that.  Not everybody is talented enough to be an author, but it seems like anybody can be an author now, so long as you have a shirtless guy on the cover, and a sex scene for a teaser.

Worth Saving hits shelves October 17th!!

Worth Saving Is Finished!!

11057280_1652148701695939_8746065792792245937_n  So, this happened!!  Yep, I FINALLY finished writing Worth Saving!!  This has been a  long journey.  It’s been tough, and a pain in the ass, but I did it.  The fact that I had to do more  revisions than I ever did on all my other books combined, really makes it that much sweeter that I  finished it.  It was a bitch, but here’s why…

I don’t read romance.  Never have.  If you’ve been following me in the book world, you already  know I love suspense.  If I could, suspense is all I’d write, and it’s all I’d read… well, it IS all I  read. But as far as writing is concerned, I’m not in the position to write a bunch of suspense  books.  The indie world just isn’t there at the moment.  I’ve already had a big fat rant on this blog  stating my hatred for erotica, and that hatred is still as strong as it was before, so I’m obviously  not reading or writing that.  So, I decided I wanted to write contemporary romance for the first  time ever, even  though I’ve never read a romance novel.  The result was me getting my ass  kicked for, like, three months during the writing process.

I started writing and didn’t let anyone read what I was doing, which is a first for me.  I waited until I got 19 chapters in before I sent it to someone I trust, who promptly told me the story was missing something.  I tried to do what she told me to do, but even after those revisions, I still wasn’t feeling very confident.  So, I read a romance, my very first romance ever. The book I read was absolutely phenomenal, and it taught me so much.  The next thing I knew, I was revising everyday like crazy person, and I ended up adding 8 new chapters to my story.  Eight!!  It changed my whole book and brought out the potential I knew this book had when I first thought it up.  I put this in my acknowledgements sections earlier today already, but I have to shout out my friend Tonya, and my wife Isabel for helping me turn this book into everything I thought it could be.  Oh, and the book I read was Resurrecting Phoenix, by Isabel Lucero.  Yep, it’s awesome, so make sure you purchase your copy when Resurrecting Phoenix hits shelves September 24th.

So, now that I’m finally done writing, it’s time to flip the script.  I’m officially done with story mode and moving into promo mode.  Worth Saving comes out on October 17th, so I have a month and a half to convince you and every other reader out there that this book is worth all the time and revisions I put into it.  This book has everything.  Drama, action, love, laughter, sadness, heartache, and I even managed to squeeze in a little suspense, to create the best book I’ve ever written.  I would normally say keep your eyes open, but I don’t really need to because I’m going to be in your face with teasers and new promo for this book.  There’s gonna be giveaways and interviews and takeovers, and anything else my mind can come up with between now and October 17th.  So, ready or not, here Worth Saving comes.  Get used to seeing teasers, the cover, and my ugly mug.

My New Book is Now Available!!

It’s official!!  My new book, Defending Her, is now available for purchase, and it’s only $1.99!!!

Sale 1

It has been an unbelievable journey, and it has taken lots of studying, and research, and determination, but the book is finally out and ready to be read by all of you!!

I have an Acknowledgements section on the back of the book, obviously, but I just want to say Thank You one more time to the love of my life, Isabel Lucero.  She’s the only one who really knows what I went through when I was writing this book, and she was the one who was there for me when I was having self-doubt, which still shows its ugly face sometimes.  We ride together in this life, and she has been my backbone for the past 11 years.  I couldn’t breathe without her being mine, and if it wasn’t for her support, there’s a whole lot in my life that wouldn’t be possible.

Out of all the books I have written so far, this one is easily my favorite.  Admittedly, Frozen Secrets will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first book ever, but Defending Her is my favorite because it includes my best writing, and my most thought out story.  I’ve been excited about this story since June of 2014, and to see it finally being released is a such a huge accomplishment for me, and I’m so happy about it.  I loved watching Jason grow and become his own man in this story, and seeing his confidence take off was awesome.  The more confident Jason became, the more confident I became in the story.  The courtroom scenes are the best scenes I’ve ever written, and are definitely my favorite.

So, all I can do now is hope that the rest of the world enjoys reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.  I’ll be having tons of promo related stuff going on for the next month or so, as I try to hit the overall bestsellers list for the first time.  I think this is the story that can do it.  I believe in this story, and I believe in these characters, so my confidence is flying high right now.  Let’s hope for a good one.  This is my breakout book!!  Let’s go!!

Go Pick up Defending Her right now!!!
